What to Ask Your Doctor
It is important to have honest and open communication with your doctor. Be prepared! Write down the questions about Tardive Dyskinesia that you may have before your visit with the doctor. It may be helpful to have someone with you when you meet with the doctor taking notes, so you can listen to what the doctor says.
Also, it is recommended to seek specialized medical treatment for these movement disorders. Going to a movement disorder clinic is recommended where the expertise of neurologists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists is available. Most of these centers accept Medicaid.
Consider these questions:
• Which TD treatment do you recommend, and why?
• What side effects might I experience with the TD treatments?
• What can I do to help reduce the side effects I may have from the TD treatment?
• Will my tardive dyskinesia get better or disappear with treatment?
• Should I be referred to a movement disorder clinic?
• Is there an occupational therapist and/or physiotherapist you can recommend?
